A particularly poignant example of Westminster Academy’s extracurricular opportunities advancing our academic goals for sound reasoning and persuasive communication is our Mock Trial teams. Westminster Academy consistently performs exceptionally well even while competing against schools many times our size. The National High School Mock Trial Competition strives to give students a fuller understanding of the American justice system by allowing them to experience the legal process firsthand. Through role-playing as lawyers, witnesses, plaintiffs and defendants, students develop an awareness and appreciation for the mechanism our society has chosen to resolve its disputes.
More than 100 schools participate statewide in district competitions - advancing from there to the state competition, an intense, two-day event in which each team participates in a minimum of four trial rounds. The Tennessee state champion is eligible to participate in the National High School Mock Trial Championship.
