Printmaking around the World: Rescheduled
Don’t have time to travel the world this summer? Join us as we explore printmaking, a foundational art technique used in many cultures. We’ll see how fishermen in Japan used gyotaku as part of their businesses. In sub-Saharan Africa, printmaking is used to create mosaic textiles. Dutch artists like Albrecht Durer and Rembrandt used etching as a tool of mass communication, especially to spread the gospel. Campers will explore various print techniques to create their own works of art to bring home. Devotions for the week will center on the printed images of the gospel from classic artists.

Self-Portrait: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made:
The psalmist declared, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). All creation was created “good,” according to Genesis 1, but the first “very good” creation was mankind, who was made in the very image of God. Campers will explore these texts and bring life to them through a series of self-portraits. A range of artistic techniques will be used, including papier-mâché, collage, drawing, and painting.

Set Design Camp:
Get out your safety goggles and construction hats! Come design, construct, and decorate the sets for the summer musical: Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr. Students will learn the basics of project management as they create a plan, purchase materials based on a budget, determine a realistic timeline, and work as a team to complete the design. Opportunities for servant leadership will abound as students see needs arise. As students work together to accomplish their goal, they will be embodying 1 Corinthians 12, which will form the basis of devotion for the week.
