Our Vision for Memphis

In our relationship with our community, we aim to be witnesses for Christ by building caring and joyful relationships, being ready to give a defense of the hope that is within us. We desire to participate in and serve the Memphis area, showing the love of Christ in all our external dealings with outside organizations, businesses, and other schools. We seek to exemplify the unity of the body of Christ and to develop greater fellowship with churches across Memphis. We seek to communicate the vision of classical Christian education to the greater Memphis community and encourage believing parents to understand and pursue classical education for their children.

In executing our vision for Memphis, Westminster Academy seeks additional ways for our students to live out their faith and to serve the wider community through school activities. Some of the local charities that our students serve through school-sponsored activities include Advance Memphis, Neighborhood Christian Center, Memphis Family Connection Center, and Blues City Thrift.  Please click on the links below to learn more about our engagement with the Memphis community.

Additionally, we have added a day of service to the 9th grade school calendar where our students serve local neighbors in need by doing a yard cleanup day. Our school also supports the Forrest Spence Fund through participating and serving at the Forrest Spence 5K each fall.  Westminster Academy has a special partnership with the local Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through our alum, Hannah Warren (Class of 2018), as we raise funds to support her fight against Myotonic Dystrophy.   Finally, our Upper School houses each take on a service project that seeks to meet the needs of local charitable organizations.

Through all these projects, our students begin to learn how to love their neighbor, serve others, and grow in Christian community.

Advance Memphis works with the community to support economic revitalization through Biblically-based programs that bring HOPE, KNOWLEDGE, RESOURCES, and SKILLS. Our partnership with Advance Memphis mainly centers around our students helping with the “Art for Jobs” event. Our students have helped the center prepare for the event by doing odd jobs around the event space, helping to install and hang artwork, and even refreshing the flower beds around their campus. Blues City Thrift Store helps support local charities and ministries right here in Memphis. They are a partner of Westminster Academy, and each spring our school holds a clothing and goods drive from which all donations are given to the store. You can learn more about Blues City Thrift Store here.

The mission of the Forrest Spence Fund is to assist with the non-medical needs of critically or chronically ill children and their families throughout the Mid-South. Westminster Academy partners with the fund by sponsoring, volunteering at, and participating in the 5K fundraising race each fall. In 2023, the Westminster Academy team was awarded for having the most participants of any organization in the city. You can learn more about the Forrest Spence Fund here

MDA is the #1 health nonprofit advancing research, care and advocacy for people living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases. Westminster Academy has partnered with local MDA Ambassador, Hannah Warren ('18), who is an alum and also battles with Myotonic Dystrophy. Westminster helps Hannah raise money for her “Hannah's Hope” MDA Walk team through bake sales and a “fill the boot” campaign. The school also partnered with Hannah to write, illustrate, and publish a book about her journey with the disease. You can learn more about the MDA Muscle Walk here

Memphis Family Connection Center provides holistic therapeutic care for families and individuals through a multidisciplinary integrated model of care. Westminster Academy partners with the center in conjunction with their Red Tub Day event, which gives foster children in the Memphis area Christmas gifts. In 2023, our Grammar School & Upper School students worked together to raise money & provide gifts for six red tubs to be filled, and our Upper School students also volunteered their time to help sort and organize at the MFCC. You can learn more about MFCC and Red Tub Day here

The mission of the Neighborhood Christian Center is to guide those in need towards stability and sustainability through compassionate, Christ-centered ministries. Westminster Academy partners with the NCC through a food drive each February, collecting dry goods, canned foods, and shelf-stable products for distribution through the center to those in need in the city. You can learn more about the NCC here.
